A prominent Lord Hanuman Temple, Mahavir Mandir located in Patna, Indian state of Bihar. This temple is dedicated to the god Hanuman. Millions of pilgrims visit this temple annually. There is no original clue about building this temple first time. As per the Patna High Court judgment in 1948, the temple has existed since time immemorial. However, due to the historical facts and traditions, it appears that this temple was originally established by Swami Balanand, who was an ascetic of the Ramanandi sect in around 1730 CE.
Despite the temple’s ancient history, it gained prominence in 1947 when a large number of Hindu refugees came to Patna after the partition of India. Subsequently, the temple was rebuilt as a concrete house, which was demolished in 1987 to build a huge marble temple. It houses a statue of Sankat-Mochan, an incarnation of Hanuman, and lakhs of devotees came here for Darshan.
